WoW Report: Guild or No Guild

Pros
The most obvious pro to being is a guild is other people to play with. There are a lot of quests that you just can’t do by yourself and being in a guild there are always people in your guild online that can help you out with the quest you are having trouble with.
Most guilds have a guild bank. This is a character that everyone in the guild sends money, loot, and mats. So say you need certain materials for crafting something and you can’t find them on the auction house and you really don’t feel like farming them for 3 hours. Go onto the guild bank and see if they are there. If they are they are yours and best yet they are free!
All large instances are done by guilds. I really have not heard of any pug groups doing molten core and other high level instances like that. These instances are will you will get great drops off bosses and the only way you will be able to go through the instance and beat the bosses is with your guild. Also most guilds have a system for distributing loot fairly so you don’t have any ninja-looters.
Another thing I liked when I was a lower level were some of the fun guild related things we did. One weekend all of the higher levels took us around to get all of the flight paths on each continent. Another time we raided Crossroads and another time we raided Tauren Mill.
So is a guild for you? I really think that is up to you, but usually they are fun to be in and can really help you out.

I disagree with your assesment of guilds. To me, there are tons of “cons” to being in a guild. In fact, the necessity of being in a guild for end game content is why I and all of my friends ended up leaving the game after 2 years. Each of us had multiple level 70 characters, I had 4. All done without the help of guilds at any time.
Joining a guild instantly meant that you had a set schedule “the job”, obligations to help lower level guild mates. Basically you almost never got to do what YOU wanted to do.
