WoW Report: Addon’s

Just like any game World of Warcraft has an extensive list of user created addon’s. From ones that tell you how much items in the game are worth to ones that change the entire UI itself. I have been using a widely popular addon for the past few weeks and I have really enjoyed it. It makes playing much easier and I think it makes the game look better. So in this weeks WoW Report I will be telling you a little bit about that addon.

PhotekUI

I was shown this addon by one of my friends. PhotekUI is a combination of many different addon’s. Instead of going over every addon that is in PhotekUI I will be explaining the things I like about it and how it makes playing World of Warcraft more enjoyable.

Unlike many addon’s PhotekUI requires you to do a lot just to get it installed. You first want to make backups of your Interface and WTF folders in your World of Warcraft folder. Now from the downloaded PhotekUI folder you need to copy the Interface and WTF folders to your World of Warcraft folder. Now go into the WTF folder, then the account folder and rename "YOURACCOUNTNAME" to whatever your account name is. Then rename the "YourServerName" folder to whatever your server is. Go into that folder and change the "YourCharacterName" folder to whatever your characters name is. Sounds like a lot of work, but actually it’s pretty simple. Also when you go into the character load screen click on the addons button and change the script size from 32 to 64. I was not able to get PhotekUI to work until I changed this value.

Ok so what does PhotekUI do? The first noticeable thing is that instead of one chat box, you have 3 separate ones at the bottom. The first one is all of your notifications and general and trade chat. The middle is all chat, normal, party, guild, etc. Finally the last chat box is all the information about you. From your experience to hit points it is all displayed here. Also you will notice that the text is different. The entire UI uses a more attractive text.

All of your powers and skills are right in the center of the screen. On my setup I have the XP bar right about that. The XP bar will tell you how far along you are, how many experience points you have, and how many more kills you need to level. Also you can change the design and colors of the XP bar. Above the XP bar you can see your avatar. This is really cool, never before were you able to see what your character looks like. If you select someone in the game their avatar will come up on the other side. There is also a display of health and mana.
