October 18th, 2007 by Jeff Nilges

Today, Sony has announce their 40GB PS3 today for $399, and will reduce the price on the 80GB model to $499. It’s still a lot more than the Xbox 360, and Wii. But Sony says the price cuts will take effective immediately. And the new systems should be on sale November 2nd.
President and CEO, Jack Tretton, says their will also be a broad portfolio of outstanding games lining up for the holiday season including, Tools of Destruction, The Eye of Judgment, Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare, Assassin’s Creed, Haze, and Rockband, just to name a few.
The downside of the new 40GB Ps3’s is that you will no longer be able to play PS2 titles, reflecting the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles.
