Pittco Lite 2006
March 8th, 2006 by Bob Buskirk
Pittsburgh, there really is not a "scene" of any kind there, but if you look hard enough you will find the LAN scene. This past weekend Pittco (Pittsburgh LAN Coalition) held their "lite" LAN party. Pittco usually hosts larger events but they decided to tone things down for a smaller "lite" event. Pittco always puts on a good show so let’s see how they did this time…

Pittco always puts on a good show so let’s see how they did this time…
Event Location
Pittco lite was held at the South Hills Holiday Inn. My first thoughts were oh great a crappy hotel, but this Holiday Inn was recently remodeled and to say the least was very nice. Hell in the lobby area they even had a fireplace with a nice big plasma TV above it. Personally I like LAN parties in hotels, they seem more comfortable. Pittco’s last 2 events were held in a gym so this was a nice change.
Getting Inside
Before you can actually enter the gaming area you have to check in and make sure you have the appropriate forms filled out. Pittco always has staff at the check in table. Once you are checked in you are seated. There are not assigned seats but Pittco does seat you so they can fit in groups that want to sit together.
Once you are inside it is the same as most LAN parties; tables and wires. The tables are setup in rows, they are not to close together that you don’t have room to move around. All of the power and network cables and taped down and covered with cardboard so you don’t trip on them.
Everything is provided to you from Pittco; the power, network etc. You are asked to bring your own LAN cable, but if you forget one they have a ton sitting out that you can use. This is always good, because who wants to go buy a LAN cable that they might not use again. Pittco also provides wireless and Ethernet internet access; although it is restricted, but most major online games are supported.
