Well looks like Valve is moving away from episodic content delivered over their Steam Client. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 was supposed to be released around Christmas 2006, but the game was pushed back to summer of 2007. Now EA and Valve have announced it will hit store shelves in winter 2007.

Instead of distributing the game over the steam client Valve will be going the retail market again. Releasing the “Black Box” and the “Orange Box” for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. The Black Box will include Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Valve’s new puzzle game titled Portal, and Team Fortress 2. The orange box will include all of those titles plus Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode one. So if you have never played any of the Half-Life series you can experience it all in one purchase.

From the press release…

“In less than 18 months, we’ve shipped 10 new products to retail outlets with EA Partners,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve. “The Black Box and The Orange Box represent a new approach to publishing multiple products, on multiple platforms and we know through our experience that no organization in the industry is better equipped to successfully launch new product types on multiple platforms than EA Partners.”
