Garfield And His Nine Lives (GBA) Review
September 18th, 2006 by Bob Buskirk
Graphics and Audio
The Garfield character looks fairly good on screen, and is somewhat detailed. His animations while smooth are extremely annoying. His jumping animation makes it hard to judge and time your jumps. The enemies, except for the bosses, contain much less detail. They look like little blobs, and feature minimal animation. The bosses are more detailed and larger than the standard enemies. The backgrounds in Garfield and his Nine Lives are very bland and uninspired. They are just static images that are colorful, but at the same time they are boring and lifeless.
The audio in Garfield and his Nine Lives is forgettable and plain. The background music is mildly annoying along with the standard bloops and beeps used for collecting items. Other than the attack and collecting sounds, the audio is used sparingly. Overall the graphics and audio combine to form a mediocre experience that is common with these types of tie-in games.
Final Thoughts
Garfield and his Nine Lives proved to be a frustrating experience. The game is hampered by poor controls and level design. Combine this with the below average graphic and audio package, you get what you would expect from a game based on a franchise from a different medium. Even though the game is intended for children, if I found the game mildly frustrating, I doubt they would have better luck with it. And with an extremely short playtime, I would only recommend Garfield and his Nine Lives to die hard Garfield fans.
Pros:
- Minimal text which is good for kids
Cons: - Poor controls and level design
- Bland audio and visuals
- Short playtime
Overall Score: 5/10
