Favorite Video Game Easter Eggs
April 8th, 2007 by Bob Buskirk

Since it is Easter I decided to compile a list of my favorite video game easter eggs. Video game easter eggs are little things that video game developers put into games that are hard to find, but if and when you do find them you laugh or say sweet! Video game easter eggs have been in almost every video game out there all the way back to the Atari 2600! So here are some of my favorites. Read on to check them out!
Super Mario Bros

Not as much of an easter egg, but on the second level towards the end you can jump up above the screen and walk to find a secret warp zone. These warp zone would take you to a level much further into the game.
Super Mario Bros 3

Sticking with the Super Mario Bros series the next easter egg that was oh so common was the warp whistles. These warp whistles would transport you to different levels. In world 1-3 towards the end there is a white block, if you get up on it press and hold down you will eventually fall through the back of it and run towards the end of the level. At the end you will enter a secret mushroom house where Toad gives you the warp whistle. Other warp whistles can be found in the World 1 fortress and on the World 2 map.
Mortal Kombat

This was one of the easter eggs that was very hard to do and every time the shadowy item was flying in front of the moon we would all be like, "Don’t hit me at all!". On the pit stage if you saw a shadowy item flying in front of the moon that means you could enable the easter egg. What you had to do was beat your opponent without getting hit or using the block button. If you did this after the match you would be able to fight Reptile at the bottom of the pit.
Warcraft, Warcraft 2, and Starcraft

This was quite a funny easter egg. I actually discovered it when I was bored waiting for my peasants to mine gold. I repeatedly clicked on one peasant and after about 6 clicks instead of saying , "Back to work" or something like that he said something completely different that would just made me laugh. They would either complain about something or say something funny. It worked on all characters in Warcraft, Warcraft 2, and Starcraft. Although I tried it in World of Warcraft without any luck!

These days almost all of the sites offering opportunities of distance learning have gone through the ordeal of a web design studio and have just the perfect layouts. While studying for certifications like 646-392 and 642-552, one does appreciate this fact a lot. The appreciation increases to a thousand-fold if broadband speed is available and the sites are coming up with features like wireless phone as well, to make the learning process easier.

Actually, in World of Warcraft, if you click an NPC enough it does get upset.
heh. another good one is the cheese in the original (and dare I say only) perfect Dark for N64.
any zelda game: hitting chickens until they attack you
i like the monkey in final fantasy 8 that says “Ha-ha! Loser! Dork! Idiot! Your mom wear combat boots”
Actually, if u want a pet chicken, you can go to the racing area in shimmering flats, and there is an npc near the bleachers that sells chickens! good luck hit me up on andorhal
Moonbagel 66 troll mage- Andorhal
The pictures of Nintendo characters in Zelda: Ocarina of Time (in the castle)
Seriously, do you get to keep the chicken or does it disappear after leaving the game and coming back?
Hm. This made digg, and the list is kind short and lame. Clicking on the guys in WC2 an Easter Egg? I’d call it a feature, not an Easter Egg.
Definitely the Cuccoos in Zelda Ocarina of Time. Keep slashing one of them, then you get a little cutscene in which the camera zooms on the Cuccoo’s face, its eyes go red and it starts to chase you, and summons its bretheren from the sky to rain down a feathery death upon you. Seriously, Cuccoos are the deadliest creatures in the game as they can’t be killed, they deal real damage and they hunt you relentlessly. The only way to escape is to enter a building or leave the area.
How in the world did this get dugg? Did an army of elite 8 year old gamers take over digg?
Actually the original Counter Strike hidden area is from Office, you can blow up a wall in the store room by the hostages and it has a sign in there from the creators.
I like Marble Blast Ultra on Xbox360… it had ACTUAL easter eggs hidden around the levels.
The dopefish lives!!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dopefish
In Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal, the creators put in an Insomniac Museum.
Go to Metropolis and follow the path over and into the first building, then hop up onto the left window sill and break the window, then hop across to the next building. Hop up onto the left side again and break this window, and there’s a teleporter. Go to it at 3:00am-4:00am for the Insomniac Museum.
It’s a lot of fun to play around in there, they really put a lot of effort into something that’s not a part of the gameplay.
the dopefish lives! and made an appearance in several id games over the years. also the ‘mini-game’ in god of war, hehe. and i remember there was something in duke nukem 3d, though i don’t remember what it was…
The best easter egg is in Final Fantasy I for the NES. When you are on the ship, hold A and press B 50+ times and you get a little puzzle mini-game.
In Warcraft II, if you keep clicking on the seals or sheep they will eventually explode.
The Mario and Mortal Kombat tricks aren’t really ‘Easter Eggs’, per se. These are just really well-hidden secrets in the games. A true Easter Egg would be something hidden by the developers that may make a reference to someone or something that’s unrelated to the actual game. For example, in Zelda:OoT, the hidden photos of Mario, Yoshi and Bowser. Another example would be Noob Saibot from the Mortal Kombat series, whose name is a reverse spelling of Boon Tobias, one of the developers. Or the hidden Doom 1 face that appears in a satanic floor seal that appears in Doom 3.
There is a website dedicated to easter eggs in games and applications and everything. It is www.eeggs.com
enjoy
Just tested the chicken one out…. took me about 5 or 6 /chicken ’s to get it to give me the quest.
an easy way to get the chicken in WoW is to just make a /chicken macro and spam that. Eventually the u can get the quest and it doesn’t take forever.
