Over the weekend I decided to download the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam demo. At around 500mb it only took about 20 minutes to download. After getting used to the controls and playing for an hour or so I give you my initial impressions of the game. Is it just like every other Dynasty Warriors game or is it better? Read on to find out!

At the main screen there are the 3 different play modes, Official Mode, Original Mode, and Versus Mode. Since this is the demo you can only select the original mode. Also you can only pick 1 character (Heero Yuy) and one mission (Mausolem). When the mission starts there is a dialog between characters describing the mission. Then you are given an overview of the map.

As the mission starts it’s the same as any other Dynasty Warriors game. Hoards of mechs come at you and you destroy them. You have a 3 hit combo that will take out most of the enemies. Once you get enough energy you can take out enemies with your gun. You can also boost to move around quickly to avoid getting hit and to take out enemies faster.

Throughout the game you pick up different power-ups like health, attack power, defense power, speed, etc. Also different boss’s advance and you fight them. They of course have more health and fight better than other enemies. It took me quite a few tries but I beat the first mission. You need to make sure none of your allies die in battle, if they do you fail the mission.

Overall the game is fun, but is basically the same Dynasty Warriors game you are used to except you are a Gundam. If you are a fan of Dynasty Warriors games this would be a great addition to your collection, but if you get bored with Dynasty Warriors you might want to pass on the game when it gets released. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam will be available on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on August 28.
