Gameplay

There are 3 different playing modes in the game, Let’s Cook, Friends and food, and Friends and food of the world. Let’s Cook is the single player game where you cook and unlock new recipes. Friends and food is the multiplayer game where you can cook against one of your friends. This is only 2 players though. Finally Friends and food of the world is where you play against cooks (the computer) from different regions of the world that specialize in certain recipes.

The game difficulty is not that hard at all and anyone can pickup a Wii remote and start playing. Although some of the cooking actions are harder than others and require more skill to master. The graphics are nothing special, they are what you would expect from a casual Wii game.

To give you an idea of what cooking is like I have made a video of myself cooking some shrimp in chili sauce, enjoy.

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a fun game that anyone in your family can play and have fun with Cooking Mama sure is it. All of the different cooking actions are easy to learn and fun to do for the most part. For some doing cooking actions over and over again can get boring, but for others it can be addicting. Unlocking new recipes also gives you the drive to keep on playing.

The Wii remote is sometimes unresponsive on some of the cooking actions which is really annoying. Also when doing the actions that require you to stir, change temperature, and add it is hard to move the Wii remote across the screen to do all of those actions.

Overall Cooking Mama: Cook Off for the Wii is a perfect casual game and is great for parties and get-together’s. 4 player mode would be nice, but the screen would be so clumped together. It is already hard enough on 2 player mode. This game will really appeal to the casual crowd because anyone can pick it up and start playing.
