Complete Call Of Duty 4 Review
December 20th, 2007 by Jeff Nilges
I waited for a while to review this game just because it was one of those games I’ve been dying to play and beat. I just got the game about a week or so ago and Oh My God, it is epic! This game is amazing and if you don’t have it yet, what are you thinking? You must not like the First Person Shooter genre because everyone who enjoys a good FPS had this game on reservation. Spike TV’s Video Game Awards voted it Best Shooter and Best Military Game, and it’s well deserved. I quite honestly believe it deserves Best Multiplayer over Halo 3, and Best game fueled by Dew because thats all I drank while playing.

But as everyone knows, the VGA’s are pointless, and its just like the situation which happened earlier this month, with the review of Kane and Lynch. The one where the author was fired for giving it a bad review and the site was being paid to advertise the game. I’m sure many others believe that Spike is paid some crap load of money to hold the events, and well, the result of that was “Most Addictive Game Fueled by Dew.” Now I wonder who’s going to win that… Anyways moving on to what you really want to read, the Call of Duty 4 review!
I’m simply in love with this game. It takes quite a bit for me to get addicted to a game and this game has that power over me. The Call of Duty series has been great but I’ve never gotten sucked into it quite as much as this one. As most people would agree, the Single player campaign is extremely short, but difficult. I had a blast playing this game, simply because of how realistic the scenarios are. The realism in this game is mind blowing and in addition to that, the AI is also amazing. The problem is that you are not allowed much freedom in this game but it is forgivable because of the AI. In order to advance in this game, you have to do the work, you can’t expect your crew to do everything for you. In other words, if your just camping out in a building enemies will just keep on coming by until you move in and make sure its clear. This took me a bit to notice because I’m a stealth type player. I like to camp out and wait…this game took that from me. In all seriousness though, you are the main character, the hero, why would you not advance? This is the mentality I went into while playing this game and the results were great. One hell of a single player experience.
I don’t think I’ve been as addicted to a multi-player FPS since the good days of Unreal Tournament 2004 on the PC. It amazes me how much time I have put into this game online alone. I don’t play online much unless I play with people I know personally. I figured out why I play a lot though, the answer is simple, the ranks. I feel like I’m playing just to get a new emblem next to my name, then when you get it, you just want to continue and get to the next. Not only that though - You also unlock new weapons and perks, all of which help you out during the game. To make things even better, you get to create your own custom classes! Each class is unique with the weapons and perks you unlock. This can be customized any way you want with a primary weapon, a side arm, a frag type, and 3 perks. Perks are awesome, they are added attributes to your character. These change anything from accuracy, damage power, and give you the ability to plant C4 or Claymores and much more. The only peeve I have for multi-player mode would have to be the clans. After reaching a certain rank, you get to place a 3-4 alpha-numerical clan name which appears next to your name in brackets. Raging and I are of course representing clan [ORG] ;). But the reason why I hate this is because anyone can place what they want, you don’t have to be invited into it, you can simple copy someone else’s clan and there would be no worries. A possible fix for this which I hope to see in the upcoming series would have to be a higher level clan option. What I mean with this is that a person would have to reach the highest possible rank, and then this unlocks the option to create a clan. This person could then send out the invitations to who ever they desire. A clan section would be awesome too, where clan members go to check their clan stats, set clan fights and such, it would be great. Maybe a clan rank system too? Who knows whats to come, now I’m just blabbing what I wish to see in upcoming versions of the game now. That’s about it for multi-player though, it’s amazing, with so many different game types, tons of fun, impossible to get bored.
I doubt anyone needs to read this to make sure they buy it. Everyone has it by now and friends are telling friends to get it, but yeah…if you don’t have it yet…WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Go get it, even if you don’t have Live, the single player campaign will be entertaining with one hell of a story and great game play. A definite must have for any 360 owner and first person shooter fan playing on the PC.
